DENVER — After spending years fighting a battle against Colorado meth use, a Denver based advocacy group is hoping to help parents stop perscription drug abuse.

The group, Rise Above Colorado, hosted a kick off event Wednesday night. Through social media and advertisements on websites like YouTube, the group will encourage parents to speak with teenagers about the dangers of drug abuse.

“It’s an escape for kids,” said Amanda Hill, a Greeley student and volunteer for “Rise Above Colorado.”

A recent report lists Colorado as the second highest ranking state in the country for pain pill abuse.
